Sinopsis
La comunidad Huaorani habita desde hace miles de años las selvas ecuatorianas. Pese a su fama de violentos frente a los extraños y la de imponer una férrea dominación sobre el territorio que los rodea, este documental de observación se centra en su vida cotidiana, revelando las escenas habituales que los tienen como protagonistas, tales como preparar el almuerzo o asistir a misa. A través de esa observación paciente, se revelan los años de cultura forjada a la distancia del resto de las civilizaciones, y una manera particular de aproximación a la naturaleza y al propio cuerpo. Trascendiendo el posible interés etnográfico por una cultura ajena y original, Soy Huao logra construir una mirada explicativa del funcionamiento social –a veces con humor, otras con sorpresa, siempre a la distancia exacta– mientras plantea la frágil relación de los Huaorani con el mundo exterior y sus posibles consecuencias.
Synopsis:
The Huaorani community has inhabited the Ecuadorian jungles for thousand years. In spite of their reputation of being violent with strangers and of imposing a firm domination over the territory that surrounds them, this observation documentary focuses on the everyday life, revealing the everyday scenes that have them as main character, such as preparing lunch or attending to mass. The quiet observation reveals the years of a culture that was forged distant from the rest of civilizations, and a peculiar way of approaching nature and the body itself. Trascending any possible ethnographic interest of a strange and original culture, Soy Huao (I´m Huao) succeeds in building up an explanatory gaze on the social functioning (sometimes with humor or surprise, but always keeping a distance) while show us with the fragile relationship of the huaoroni community with the outside world and its possible consequences.
